The Trichocereus hybrid 'Hunsrück Bernstein' is a rare collector’s item with a warm amber-colored flower and impressive, long spination. This hybrid is the result of a cross between Schigra and a yellow-blooming Trichocereus candicans, and is part of the legendary "Hunsrück Series" by Eckhard Meier.

Mr. Meier, primarily known for breeding Epiphyllum hybrids, had also made a few Trichocereus crosses which remained largely unnoticed in several seedling trays. When cactus enthusiast Klaus Kornely visited Meier, he noticed the trays, recognized their potential, and took them to his garden in Spain. There he cultivated, selected, and named the best seedlings — giving birth to the "Hunsrück Series."
